Fire safety tips for gas stations

Gas stations have a lot of diesel and gasoline, which are key fire prevention areas. Let’s take a look at fire safety tips and fire prevention measures.

Pay special attention to these refueling safety matters: It is strictly forbidden to use open flames or smoke at gas stations to avoid causing fires; be careful not to bring any dangerous items into gas stations; it is strictly forbidden to use mobile phones and other communication devices during refueling, as static electricity generated when making phone calls may cause fires.

Fire prevention measures:

1. In case of an electrical fire, the power supply should be cut off first and a fire extinguisher should be used to put out the fire. It is strictly forbidden to use water to extinguish the fire to prevent electric shock.

2. If the oil in the open container catches fire,  a fire blanket should be used to cover the fire source to block the air and suffocate the oil fire.

3. When a fire occurs in a tanker truck, the vehicle should be quickly driven away from the oil site before the fire is put out; if the tank mouth is on fire, a fire blanket can be used to cover the tank mouth to block the air to achieve the purpose of extinguishing the fire; a fire extinguisher can also be used to extinguish the fire.

4. If a fire occurs at a gas station, refueling should be stopped immediately, and a 911 fire alarm should be called at the same time. Warning signs should be set up at the entrance to quickly evacuate the refueling vehicles and idle personnel on the site, and the vehicles should be guided out of the station in an orderly manner and evacuated to a safe area.

5. If a fire occurs in a place near a gas station, refueling operations should be stopped, the power supply should be cut off, measures should be taken for the refueling machine, oil tank hole, and breathing valve, fire extinguishing equipment should be concentrated, and prevention of key areas should be strengthened.

6. If the fuel tank of a refueling vehicle catches fire, you can take off your clothes or use appropriate items to seal the fuel tank hole; if the motorcycle engine catches fire, you should stop refueling, try to cover the fuel tank cap, and then use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
